PRE-MEDIATION/CONFLICT PREVENTION

Remediate Mediation believes relationships are the most valuable asset of individuals and companies. Pre-mediation is professional conversation facilitation to prevent conflict in case preservation of the relationship is important.

LINGERING ISSUES LEADING TO CONFLICT ESCALATION

When relationships get strained, this often happens gradually ‘below the surface’. Consequently, there is a risk of the conflict escalating and becoming more comprehensive. More comprehensive, because colleagues will become involved in the conflict. After all, negativity tends to spread. In case of a complex decision-making process or tough negotiations, it may therefore be beneficial to all involved to engage a professional to prevent conflicts.

Topics suitable for pre-mediation are diverse. Some examples:

  • Impending breach of trust within a board
  • Complicated (re)allocation of tasks within an organisation
  • Growing distrust among partners in a partnership
  • Questions on the interpretation of contracts, involving conflicting interests of the parties involved.

BENEFITS PRE-MEDIATION

Pre-mediation is not that well established yet. Even though it has many advantages:

  • Maintaining a relationship is so much easier than repairing one
  • The early involvement of a conversation facilitator is often perceived as positive: it emphasises the value of the relationship and recognises the complexity of the issue at hand.
  • All this ensures the parties stay connected.

HOW DOES PRE-MEDIATION WORK AT REMEDIATE MEDIATION?

On average, 2 to 4 meetings are needed to guide the parties during pre-mediation. For more complex cases, the number of meetings may be higher. Prior to the joint mediation sessions, an introductory meeting takes place between Carola and each party separately. The first joint meeting is only scheduled if all parties indicate they wish to continue the mediation. During the joint conversations, the parties sit at the table together with Carola. The conversations last 2 to 2.5 hours on average. At the end of each conversation, Carola confirms the agreed upon action points in writing and a follow-up meeting is scheduled. A successful pre-mediation is concluded with an appointment overview or a written agreement signed by the parties. Would you like to find out what pre-mediation can do for you?
